Kaydie (Montana Skies #2)Kaydie by Penny Zeller

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

KAYDIE was a sweet story, just like its main character. Book two in the Montana Skies series, KAYDIE was not fast-paced or mysterious, but enjoyable all the same.

Kaydie Kraemer, is trying to pick up the pieces of her horrific life. After the death of her cruel husband, she finds solace with her sister, McKenzie, and McKenzie’s new husband and family. Traumatized by her abusive marriage, she intends never to marry again. Her desire is to raise her unborn child alone, and make the best of her situation.

Jonah Dickenson, a ranch hand for Kaydie’s brother-in-law, tries his best not to scare the gun-shy Kaydie. The devout bachelor soon finds himself drawn to Kaydie and her newborn daughter, and the change in his feelings concerns him. His own childhood was a mess and he feels he lacks the tools to be a good husband or father. But, that doesn’t stop his softening heart.

Kaydie counts Jonah a true friend. He is thoughtful, caring and handsome, but Kaydie’s fear of men convinces her not to be fooled by Jonah’s exterior since her late husband had all the same traits until his personality turned violent. But even as her head tells her to shut herself off, her heart has already let Jonah in.

Knowing she’s a complete disappointment to her parents, Kaydie must decide between what she has found in Pine Haven, or going back to Boston to live the life her parents have mapped out for her.

A cute story with good characters. A little slow in sections, but I’m sure that is just because of its predictability. An easy read and a good follow-up to book one, MCKENZIE.
