My Review - Sworn to Protect

SWORN TO PROTECT is the second book in the Call of Duty Series by DiAnn Mills and it does not disappoint. Danika Morales is a border patrol agent who puts her life on the line everyday she shows up for duty. Still trying to comprehend the murder and betrayal of her husband two years prior, Danika’s life revolves around her young daughter and the job she’s devoted to. When her life is threatened and her husband’s family is attacked, she is convinced more than ever that her husband’s death was not accidental or random.

Dr. Alex Price lives by his own creed– Provide medical care for all, regardless where his patients measure up against immigration laws. When he meets Danika Morales, he is drawn to her, even though he assumes their feelings about immigration laws are polar opposites. When he finds out she is the widow of Toby Morales, a friend of his who helped illegal’s, he has a hard time understanding how two people with totally different belief systems could have been married. But his feelings soon change when he finds himself falling for the self-sufficient agent.

Danika is not ready to trust anyone, even the good doctor, that is until her life and the life of her daughter are threatened. Feeling her husband’s death, human trafficking, drugs, and gangs are all somehow tied together, she and Alex work to uncover the common thread before she becomes the next victim.

SWORN TO PROTECT is riveting and educating. DiAnn Mills exposes her readers to the complex issues regarding the protection of our borders and the difficult decisions that must be made when dealing with the lives that are caught up in the bureaucracy. DiAnn breathes life into her characters, making them multi-faceted and real. I can’t wait to read the third installment in this gripping series.
