DISASTER STATUS is the second installment in the Mercy Hospital Series. Erin Quinn, an ER charge nurse, seems in complete control, at least with her job. But her personal life is a different matter. Estranged from her father and strained tension with the rest of her family has her clinging to the relationship she has with her grandmother. Living together in her grandmother’s modest beach house, she dreams of one day having a relationship as strong and as pure as the one her grandmother shared with her grandfather.
Fire Captain Scott McKenna is a by-the-book person who masks the tragedies he’s endured behind his stoic, in-control personality. When he and charge nurse Erin Quinn have to work together on a toxic spill, their strong personalities clash. Scott feels a warmth from Erin he can’t explain. His life is too complicated for a relationship but that doesn’t stop feelings for her to develop.
Erin has been burned by the men in her life and though she is intrigued by Scott McKenna, she’s gun-shy to show her interest. When she sees traits of undependability, she backs off in order to guard her heart.
DISASTER STATUS was a very entertaining read. Candace Colbert’s knowledge of the ER and descriptive details adds to an already well written story. I will be eagerly looking for book three.
Book provided for review.
