My Review - The Summons by MaryLu Tyndall

5 out of 5 stars
MaryLu Tyndall has done it again! THE SUMMONS, the first installment it what I am sure will be another epic pirate’s tale, was full of exciting adventures, seafaring battles, and romantic chemistry that will keep you turning page after page.

Emeline Hyde, the daughter of redeemed pirate, Alexander Merrick, dreams of one day having her own hero declare his love for her and whisk her away just like her father did for her mother. However, being kidnapped by pirate Captain Blake Keene is not what she had in mind.

Captain Blake Keene didn’t plan on kidnapping the damsel he saved from a runaway horse and wagon, but when she ends up with his priceless treasure-King Solomon’s ring-he has no choice. Though he has every intention of releasing Emeline-especially once he realizes who her father is-he’s curious about this woman who is unlike any he has ever met. Though it’s obvious she is nothing like the wenches he is accustomed to, there is something more. Light. Emeline seems to bring light with her wherever she goes. And with the dark spirits he is battling on a nightly basis, he realizes he’s not ready to let her go.

Emeline challenges Blake at every turn. Blake in turn is frustrated by her insolent behavior and wants rid of Emeline but there is something about her that he can’t seem to shake. He wants to be her hero. He feels it in his soul. He wants to be a better man, because Emeline deserves the very best. He just doesn’t know if he can give up his life’s goal for a woman. Even a woman as incredible as Emeline Hyde.

In true MaryLu fashion these two characters spark like a fourth of July firework. A spark that smolders and grows to a full-fledged firestorm. Emeline is confused that she could have feelings for a man so contrary to what a hero is, and Blake is afraid to allow another woman to get a hold of his heart. As these two opposites find middle ground in spite of the contrary worlds they come from, their love is challenged by a foe willing to destroy them both.

I absolutely loved THE SUMMONS. MaryLu’s ability to create a world in which her readers can escape is amazing. Whenever I pick up one of her books, I know I have to be ready to set all other tasks aside because once I turn the first page, I will not stop until I’ve reached the satisfying ending. The only downside is that all good stories must come to an end. At least until the next installment is released.

I received an ARC & was not required to write a positive review. I received no monies or discounts.
