LOVE ON A DIME has an interesting premise in that, Lilly Westbrook, is an author of dime novels writing under a nom de plume. Knowing that a young woman of society should not be reading dime novels, let alone writing them, Lilly keeps her profession a secret so as not to bring shame on her family. But, when a columnist threatens to expose her, she is unsure what to do. And, when Jackson Grail, a beau from her past reappears as the owner of the publishing house she is signed with, she is beside herself. Lilly never quite got over Jack abandoning her at a young age, and now an engaged Lilly must fight society and her heart.
I enjoyed LOVE ON A DIME, though at times I felt the pace was slowed by Lilly’s up and down feelings for Jack, and whether or not she should step out from behind the name Fannie Cole. While Lilly seemed a bit wishy-washy, Jack was the typical dashing hero, and Ms. James did well creating great antagonists. I will probably take a chance on her next installment of the Ladies of Summerhill series.
